Video:

Two-hour radar loop from 4:45 to 6:45 AM CST:  Scattered flurries and snow showers working across the state this morning, especially for locations to the north.  A decent burst of snow fell from Pontiac to Kankakee to near Chicago…be sure to watch for slick roadways this morning.

Forecast radar through the day…snow showers/flurries should gradually push out late morning.  Can’t rule out a few flurries into tonight, but expecting generally dry but cold conditions.

More brutal temperatures settle in tonight and stick around through Saturday:

Closely watching a storm system poised to move in Sunday through Monday.  Warmer air move in and try to bring in liquid precipitation, but it will take some time for surfaces to warm thanks to our prolonged cold spell.  If you have travel plans Sunday, please keep an eye on the forecast as freezing rain could be an issue. The European model keeps northern portions of the state in a snow/sleet/rain mix with some snow accumulation possible Sunday night, while areas central/south switch to rain before ending as snow.

European model snowfall forecast through early Monday…keep in mind this map includes sleet accumulation as snow:
