Good Monday Morning! Watching some light scattered snow showers across North & South Dakota this morning. In today’s video we discuss the brief warm-up tonight into tomorrow ahead of the mixed precipitation risks tomorrow with our next front and the brutally cold temps that come in behind this front. Things clear up a little bit as we close out the week with another cold front bringing more chances for wintry precipitation to the region this weekend. All this and more we discuss in the video so be sure to check it out and please be sure to reach out with any questions you might have about the forecast. Have a great day!

Today’s Video (5 min):

Expect these scattered snow showers across the Dakotas to clear out as we move through the morning. With any snow that is able to reach the ground, expect a light dusting at most. Looking to Tuesday, we’re expecting more widespread wintry precipitation as an arctic front moves through the region. With temps getting above freezing in the western Dakotas, there’s the possibility some of this precipitation could start as rain and switch over to snow as this front moves through. Expect snow to start arriving for parts of northern North Dakota and Minnesota Tuesday morning and continue moving to the southeast, clearing out into Thursday morning with some lingering snow showers possible behind this front:

Looking at total accumulated snowfall from this mid-week event, we anticipate the heaviest snow to fall across parts of northern Minnesota and some parts to the southeast of the state. As this warm front moves through the area there is the potential for 1-2 inches for northern Minnesota. Our Hi-res data is also hinting at a coating of snow over the southeastern area we circled below possibly seeing a coating of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday:

Looking at temps the next four days shows the brief warm-up ahead of this cold front and the large drop-off behind with some areas seeing afternoon high temps in the negatives. With a warm front over the region and southerly winds, temps will start to rise overnight tonight ahead of the cold front that moves through:

Looking into the weekend, we’re monitoring a front to move through the area that could bring more widespread snow to the area. We’ll continue to monitor and update as we fine tune our forecast for this event:
