1-29-18 Northern Indiana Forecast Update: Latest Details on Snow Showers Today into Tuesday. D.

Good Monday Morning! We’re continuing to monitor the snow showers across the northern parts of the state this morning. We expect these snow showers to continue through the morning before starting to clear as we move into the afternoon. Most of the snow will move out the northern districts this afternoon into the evening with some lingering lake effect snow showers possible into Tuesday morning. Simulated radar shows the snow showers continuing through the morning today before clearing out as we move through the afternoon and out of the area by 5-6 tonight. Winds will be gusting up to 30 mph out of the NW which could create some risk for blowing snow throughout the day today. These winds will die down going into Tuesday as more calmer weather sets in for mid-week. We do expect a secondary band of snow to move west to east later this afternoon into this evening where more slightly moderate snow is possible…details in the video:

Looking at temperatures throughout the day today with most areas in the northern part of the state staying below freezing. Most of the northern districts can expect temperatures to stay around the upper 20’s today as the snow showers continue into the afternoon. This could allow for any snow that falls to accumulate and something to take into consideration going forward:

Comparing the latest hi-res NAM and HRRR models, you can see they’ve got similar ideas about total snow accumulations through tonight. There may be the possibility of some localized higher amounts of snow further north as lake effect banding could bring more snow into these areas where you can see the higher amounts in the northern and northeastern parts of the region.
