Today’s Video (min):

A fire weather watch is in effect for parts of southwest Kansas until 6 pm CT Tuesday. Low relative humidity, warm temps, and winds gusting up to 35 mph:

Latest hi-res Nam has the best idea right now for light snow showers across western Nebraska and southeastern Missouri today. There’s the possibility this snow that’s getting picked up on radar might not even reach the ground. If any does reach the ground there won’t be very much accumulation, a light dusting at most. However, these snow showers could potentially create some scattered slick spots on roads in these regions but nothing widespread. Something to take into consideration with any travel today. Expect these snow showers to clear out of Nebraska by late morning and to clear out of Missouri by mid afternoon:

As we move into mid-week expect a brief warm-up as an area of high pressure will pull up warmer air ahead of our next cold front. Most parts of the region see high temps today reach into the upper 20’s with some parts of the western region reaching into the 30’s and even 40’s in Kansas. Looking at Tuesday most of the region will get above freezing with the greatest warmth concentrated in southwest Kansas and the coolest temps in northeast Iowa. Wednesday continues this warm-up as most areas see upper 30’s and low 40’s with greater warmth concentrated south. We do have a front move through the area Wednesday into Thursday that will crash temps on the backside, with some areas in the northern parts seeing single digits. This cold lingers around for a while keeping things feeling more like winter through the weekend:

As this cold front moves through Wednesday into Thursday, we’re monitoring the potential for some mixing precipitation as we move through this event. With surface temps above freezing some parts of the region could only see rain from this front. But with temps crashing as this front pushes through, we run the risk of light rain switching over to snow. We’ll have to continue to monitor and update as we get closer and we hone our forecast:

Looking at total precipitation and total snowfall from this event we’re not anticipating much precipitation and snowfall as the majority of it will be concentrated to the east of this region. Total precipitation showing most areas seeing very little to unmeasurable amounts of rainfall. The heaviest precipitation being concentrated in the western parts of Nebraska and the southeast parts of Missouri. Looking at total snowfall through Thursday we can see the area with the greatest potential to see accumulating snow in west Nebraska and northwest Kansas:

Looking ahead to Saturday morning and into Sunday evening, we’re eyeing the potential for a front to move through the region that could bring more rain & snow to this area. Confidence is low right now but something to be aware of as we move through the week and we will monitor and update as needed moving forward:
