1-26-18 Northern Plains Forecast Update: Turning colder this weekend with a few snow showers. Latest info here! N.

Good Friday Morning! Another warmer than normal start to the day across the area.  Pesky disturbances will bring the risk for a few snow showers as we head through the weekend, with reinforcing cold air expected to build in.  Another shot of snow showers by Tuesday of next week followed up with a much colder second half of the week.

Some scattered snow showers across northern North Dakota this morning. More scattered snow showers may start to work in Saturday morning primarily across eastern North Dakota and northern Minnesota and continue throughout the day Saturday. We will watch another area of snow showers expected to dive southeast into South Dakota late Saturday night and continue through the day Sunday.

Here is a look at snow potential with the second wave expected to target South Dakota on Sunday.  Again, amounts look rather minor.

Temperatures start to drop off through the weekend reaching down into the single digits and negatives Sunday night into Monday. Briefly warmer air gets pulled into the area Tuesday as a strong storm system moves across southern Canada.  The cold front associated with this storm will dive into the region Tuesday night and Wednesday.  

As a warm front moves through Tuesday, snow showers will likely break out across central and northern Minnesota.  The associated cold front will move through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with a few rain/snow showers.  

Temperatures really take a dive behind this mid-week front.  Colder will start to press in Wednesday, then expand across the entire area by Thursday.  Highs for Wednesday and Thursday shown below:

7-day precipitation.  Highest amounts over northern Minnesota where a tenth to three-tenths of an inch is possible, otherwise the rest of the area sees less than a tenth inch.
