Expect mostly sunny skies to close out the weekend with another drop-off in temps to start next week. We touch on next week’s wintry storm potential around mid week and look ahead at our weeks 1 & 2 outlooks for temperatures and precipitation. Please reach out if you have any questions and have a blessed day!

Today’s Video (7 min):

Current weather advisories show parts of northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa under a dense fog advisory as warmer air starts to move in over the snowpack on the ground across these areas. With clear skies across these regions today and winds gusting up to 10 mph, we expect this fog to clear out fairly quickly once the sun comes up but reduced visibility in the early morning hours is still going to be a factor to take into consideration with any travel. A majority of southern Kansas and parts of southwest Missouri under a red flag warning until 6 pm CT tonight. With temps getting up into the 50’s today, low relative humidity, and winds gusting up to 25 mph from the south these factors can contribute to a high fire risk:

Big story continues to be the rain chances going into this weekend primarily affecting parts of southeast Kansas and southern Missouri.  Expect scattered rain showers to start across parts of southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri Friday morning and these scattered showers continuing throughout the day with the sun breaking through the clouds at time between showers. Expect these rain showers to clear out by sunrise Saturday morning with mostly sunny skies settling through the end of the weekend. We are monitoring the possibility of a weak clipper moving through the region Sunday afternoon and overnight Monday. There’s the potential for some snow/rain showers with this piece of energy across parts of eastern Nebraska, western Iowa, and northern Missouri but nothing we’re too concerned with going forward:

Models have been continuing to trend weaker with the total precipitation. Most areas in southeast Kansas and southern Missouri seeing at least a tenth of an inch up to a quarter inch:

Temps start to cool off again as another trough works into the area to start next week. We do see a warming trend heading into midweek as a weak ridge builds in. This ridge is overrun by a strong trough Wednesday into Thursday however bringing the potential for another wintry storm system and a bigger drop-off in temps to close out next week. We’ll continue to monitor and update as we hone our forecast for this system:

Updated weeks 1 & 2 outlooks. Above normal warmth and below normal precip with strong ridging through the next week. Below normal temps as we go into week 2 as a strong trough works in pulling cold air south into the region:
