Video:
Southern portions of South Dakota and Minnesota picked up very heavy snowfall with blizzard conditions on Monday. Overall, the snowfall forecast panned out well for most areas. As expected, we saw a very sharp cut-off on the northern edge of this storm. Here is a map showing observed snowfall amounts vs. our final forecast we issued Sunday:
No major systems are expected for the rest of the week. We will track a couple minor disturbances to bring light snow chances over the next couple of days. Temperatures will remain above average through the week. A brief cool-down arrives for the weekend. A stronger storm looks possible towards the latter portion of next week.
A few flurries possible possible across South Dakota this morning, then we will watch for a few snow showers in northern Minnesota later today into Wednesday. Another pesky disturbance may impact portions of North Dakota Wednesday afternoon into the evening with a few snow showers.
Very little in terms of any snow accumulation over the next couple of days…up to a half-inch over northern Minnesota:
A storm system moving across southern Canada will drag a cold front across the region on Friday, but moisture will be limited across the region. A snowstorm will occur to our north across parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Snowfall forecast through the weekend…you can see the swath of heavy snow that will be laid down well north of the area Friday into Saturday:
Next 7-days will not feature much in terms of accumulated precipitation:
While the next 7 days remain relatively quiet, a strong storm system appears possible ~February 1 (next Thursday) as a deep trough moves into the central U.S. This will also usher in a return to true arctic air! Certainly need to keep an eye on next week. Until then, enjoy a relatively mild and quiet next several days.
