1-17-20 Tovar Kokomo 8:00 PM ET: Updated thoughts on precip the rest of the evening/overnight.V.

Good Friday Evening! Below is the latest thinking on precip the rest of the evening. No major changes from the afternoon update:

Current look at radar- precip will continue to work its way to the ENE:

Current temps:

Current alerts across the state, winter weather advisories for the counties shaded in purple- closer to I-70 these advisories look to be in place more so for slick spots with ice rather than snow accumulation:

Here is the latest 6 panel of precip as we continue through the evening. One thing we are watching closely- while guidance shows a decent swath of wintry mix- which does look likely- we think it will be difficult to get major ice accumulation as precip will be coming down hard enough to really limit the ability of things to freeze, along with decent sustained winds that will help limit this accumulation. With that said, slick spots are still certainly possible/likely with temps hovering around freezing:

Sim radar from 4 AM ET to Noon tomorrow:

Loop of temps from 8 PM ET through 8 AM ET. Each frame is one hour:

As mentioned, winds will be coming from the SE that will continue to usher in warmer air as the evening goes on making it harder for ice accumulation. Sim winds from 8 PM ET tonight through 8 AM ET tomorrow morning. Sustained from the SE 10-15, gusts 20-25 MPH:

Latest thinking on ice- we still think these totals are slightly too high for the reasons mentioned above, but still want to re-iterate that there will likely be slick spots across the state:

Thoughts on potential snowfall have not changed since the afternoon video:
