1-17-19 Northern Plains: Latest details on accumulating snowfall tonight into tomorrow. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone. We have scattered snow showers and flurries across the area to start today but these won’t produce much in the way of accumulation:

Winter weather advisories and Winter Storm Watches have been issued for much of South Dakota and SW Minnesota. Expect these to be upgraded and expanded in the coming hours:

As we work into tonight snow will begin to develop in the western Dakotas and slowly increase in intensity into tomorrow. A band of heavy snow related to a strong area of frontogensis will develop in SE SD into SW Minnesota. Due to a strong area of high pressure to the north with drier air there will be a very sharp cutoff in snow on the north side with a county north/south being the difference between 8″ of snow and little to no snow. Most of the snow exits the area just after midnight tomorrow night with very cold temperatures surging in behind the storm:

Low visibilities are also possible for those seeing snow tomorrow with winds gusting up to 25 MPH:

We’ll see another wave of energy work in late Saturday and into Early Sunday which could drop some light accumulations especially in North Dakota:
