9-19-18 Northern Plains: Analyzing very heavy rain, strong to severe storm risk for the next 2 days. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning. We still have rain working through SE SD and Southern Minnesota this morning. These showers and storms will continue to progress to the east this morning and start to weaken and exit into the early afternoon:

We will start to get some scattered re-development of showers and storms as we work into the mid-late afternoon and evening hours before very heavy clusters of rain and storms develop in SE SD and Southern Minnesota late this evening and into the overnight hours. Training of storms with flash flooding risks are certainly possible overnight with isolated severe storms with large hail, strong winds and an isolated tornado or two mainly in extreme southern Minnesota.

The front will begin to lift north tomorrow increasing rain chances for Northern SD, North Dakota and Central Minnesota (eventually into Northern Minnesota). This rain does not look to be as heavy as tonight’s rain, but we could develop another severe weather risk along the front in SE Minnesota before the system pushes out overnight Thursday.

By Friday morning, here’s a look at total rainfall. Note, with the training of storms in SE SD and Southern Minnesota tonight, a band of 4-6″ of rain cannot be ruled out with widespread 1-3″ in Eastern SD and the Southern half of Minnesota.

Cannot rule out an isolated snowflake or two in NW ND with rain showers tomorrow evening, but the bigger story will be the patchy frost risks on Friday morning and widespread 50s on Friday:
