5-2-18 Northern Plains: Tracking multiple disturbances over the next few days… warming up into the weekend!

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone!

We’re going to continue to need to watch for some showers along a boundary today especially in Eastern North Dakota and Northern Minnesota. Not going to be a big rain-maker, but some light accumulations are possible especially this afternoon and evening.

We still have enough moisture and southwest flow aloft to allow for some scattered rain showers in Southern South Dakota and Minnesota today, but generally 20% coverage at the most. With that being said, more potent energy will work northward into these areas late tonight and into tomorrow allow for better risks of precipitation. Here’s a look at where to expect these risks and the coverage for shower/storm chances.

Some pockets of heavier thunderstorms are possible especially in Southeastern Minnesota. Cannot rule out some additional rain accumulations of 0.5″-1″ in especially in the southern row of counties in Minnesota with isolated higher amounts with lower amounts the further north you go.

Luckily, much drier air will enter the area from NW to SE Thursday into Friday and allow temperatures to really rise into the weekend!

This will also allow temperatures to drop quite a bit at night especially tonight in North Dakota. Some pockets of frost (highest risk circled) and near freezing temperatures are certainly on the table with clear skies.
