3-28-19 Round Rock Express Forecast: Discussing discrepancies in the data for the weekend forecast with rain chances into Saturday. I.

Good Thursday morning! Definitely be sure to check out the video for all the details regarding the upcoming 7 days!

Here’s the latest 7-day forecast:

Simulated radar through 7pm CDT Sunday: Expect dry conditions through a majority of the day, though there will be more clouds than sun, then to be followed by isolated shower risks (perhaps a lone storm) mainly after midnight that quickly works off to the east by daybreak Friday morning. Our next chance for widely scattered showers and storms will come with the passage of the cold front generally after lunchtime Saturday that gradually pulls off to the south into the evening into the overnight. There are a few discrepancies in the data as discussed in the video with the ECMWF (first gif) trying to hold onto precipitation well into the day Saturday while the GFS (second gif) keeps this precipitation south as the front rolls through. We currently agree more with the GFS at this time and keeping most of Sunday dry but cloudy, but wanted to highlight the potential wetter trends for the day.

While the better chance for showers and storms resides just south of the area Sunday, an upper-level trough will help to kick out any of these remaining showers and storms well off to the east, but to be followed up additional scattered showers associated with this trough during the daytime Monday. This wave lifts east late Monday with sunshine becoming more prevalent Tuesday into Wednesday again. Discrepancies show back up again for Wednesday’s forecast as the GFS (not shown) tries to bring in additional rain chances, but the model of choice below holds off. This will be something to keep monitoring.

Total precipitation over the next 7 days: We currently favor the left solution (GFS) with the more pronounced precipitation just south of the area and a general 0.25″ of liquid for Round Rock. However, as noted the ECMWF is more aggressive and will need to be monitored, but it does remain a rogue solution.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great day!
