3-28-19 Reds Update: Wave of light rain expected late tonight with widespread rain activity for Saturday. I.

Good afternoon! Just wanted to provide a quick update for the games through the weekend. Plentiful sunshine has worked into the Cincy Metro area and will make for wonderful conditions for the ball game! Given the sunshine that is draped over the area (helps to promote some mixing), the only thing to watch are breezes to 20-25mph but nothing to be concerned about. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds will remain the story for the game this evening with any rain chances residing to the north (very spotty if at all near Cincy).

Simulated radar through 5pm EDT Friday: Watch for the more substantial risk for light to perhaps moderate rains to develop late tonight/early Friday morning, mainly after 4am EDT (though a few showers can prelude this time overnight) as a wave lifts in from the west. However, this precipitation will be quickly pushing off to the east Friday morning as the bulk of the activity will be just south and east of Cincy by 9am EDT and remaining isolated in nature (pockets of drizzle possible as well) for the rest of the morning into the afternoon hours. Any sunshine will be far less likely just due to low-level saturation hanging around.

Here’s an updated look at rainfall guidance through 5pm EDT Friday: Up to this point, the rain will be light in nature and occurring a majority of the time late tonight into early Friday morning. Rains still remain on course to bring ~0.1″ of liquid to this point, and increasing north of the Cincy Metro where better forcing resides.

Simulated radar from 5pm EDT Friday through 4am EDT Saturday: As stated from this morning’s update, we’re going to watch for a quasi-stationary boundary to setup shop across the Ohio Valley which will provide additional opportunities for increased moisture and precipitation from late Friday afternoon through early Saturday night. Additional scattered light pockets of rains are anticipated mainly after 6pm EDT Friday, lingering into the overnight. A dry slot will be developing late Friday night into early Saturday that can result in some brief dry time, but will be filled back in with light to moderate rains (sometimes heavy) by 8am EDT Saturday and continuing through the rest of our Saturday, heavily impacting Saturday’s game. Instability will be generally lacking, but a few rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out as well as gusts approaching 30mph. Little to no dry time is expected for this game, especially as it progresses when heavier precipitation works on in. The cold front will push eastward Saturday night and allow for colder air from the west to settle in, possibly transitioning to a mix of rain and snow early Saturday night before virtually coming to and end shortly after midnight.

Total precipitation through Saturday night (includes the heavier event Saturday and precipitation expected late tonight into early Friday as well): Guidance is still firm on the idea of 1.0-1.5″ of rain for the Cincy Metro area, again, with the bulk of this occurring during the day Saturday. Expect major implications with Saturday’s game given the onslaught of precipitation associated with the cold front pushing through the area.

From Sunday morning onwards, there aren’t any hazards to really discuss and drier trends will be noted. Sunday’s game shouldn’t have any issues with clearing skies. Even the games that take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the weather should be overall nice with a mix of sun and clouds most days. This excludes Tuesday and generally cloudy skies are likely due to upper-level clouds working in from a storm system remaining to the south and east.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great evening and ball game!
