3-28-19 Missouri: Heavy rain potential through Saturday….latest here! N.

Missouri Video:

Radar as of 9:30am CDT: Storms producing pockets of large hail across southern Nebraska into central Kansas this morning.  We will be watching for coverage to increase over southeast Nebraska and northern/northeast Kansas this morning into the afternoon.

We are dealing with pockets of heavy storms in far southern Nebraska and the eastern half of Kansas developing this morning, with the risk expanding into Missouri this afternoon through tonight.  Pockets of large hail and gusty winds will be the main threat.  Forecast radar from 7am to 7am Friday shown below. Note the models are underdone on storm development in parts of south-central Kansas this morning. You will notice an overall lull in precipitation tonight into early Friday.

Marginal severe risk outlined for northeast Kansas, southeast Nebraska, and portions of central and northern Missouri.

Total precipitation through tonight: Local heavy rain/flash flood threat in northeast Kansas/southeast Nebraska into central and northwest Missouri today and tonight.

Precipitation picks up throughout the day Friday, with rain showers especially along and south of I-80, with rain changing to snow during the afternoon across western Nebraska.  Precipitation will continue Friday night into Saturday, gradually shifting southeast as this frontal zone becomes a cold front.  Precipitation will end in Nebraska around daybreak Saturday, with precipitation gradually exiting the region from northwest to southeast.   We’ll start the day Saturday with some snow showers mixing in across Kansas, then by the afternoon the precipitation focus will be across Missouri, exiting by sunset Saturday.

On our Friday, main severe weather risk sets up south of here, but an isolated severe storm with hail/wind in southwest Missouri.

Total snowfall:  Showing a modeled snowfall is difficult because there will be so much melting.  The main risks for accumulating snow continue to be western and northwest Nebraska, where a band of 2-4″ from Scottsbluff to North Platte and Valentine, and points west.  There could be very minor snow accumulation into Kansas.  Further east, some snow may mix in over southern Iowa and Missouri, but right now not expecting any accumulation (it will be too warm, and dry air comes in pretty quick).

Total precipitation through Saturday:

Wind forecast over the next 4 days:  Breeziest day comes Saturday, with very light winds on Sunday.

A drier pattern develops from the weekend through mid next week.  Our next system brings precipitation risks to the region Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
