3-14-19 Northern Plains: Blizzard conditions continue today, drier pattern likely into next week. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone! We are still watching a few areas of moderate to heavy snow with this storm system especially in Eastern SD this morning with lighter snow with a few additional inches of accumulation in Eastern ND and NW Minnesota:

Here’s a look at the simulated radar for the rest of the day. Note, the model is too far south with the current band of snow in E. SD. Given the location of low-level frontogenesis, expect the heaviest snow to remain further north – see the outlined area in the map below:

Winds will continue to gust and create major issues with blowing and drifting snow throughout the day today which will allow Blizzard conditions to persist. Dangerous travel conditions will continue throughout the day given these winds:

We are carefully watching some scattered snow showers that could develop tomorrow, but these will not be widespread with only isolated accumulations of 0.5″ possible. A more potent wave will work in late Friday night into Saturday which could drop a more widespread swath of light accumulations. A lot of discrepancies on this wave right now, but given the upper-level energy, we could see an inch or two especially across the Central Dakotas.
