3-12-19 Update: Major Blizzard likely tomorrow, Thursday. Flooding concerns in Minnesota. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Tuesday morning everyone! We could see dense Fog develop throughout portions of the area this evening and into tonight ahead of the strong storm that ramps up tomorrow:

The snow will really begin to ramp up as we work into tomorrow morning in SW South Dakota. Very heavy snow will continue most of tomorrow and into tomorrow night for much of Western and Central South Dakota with snow rates achieving 1-2″/hour at times. Visibilities will be near 0 with winds gusting over 50-60 MPH. Travel will likely be impossible for areas seeing heavy snow with blizzard conditions for those even with lighter snow totals. Here’s a look at winds and the simulated radar through 1 PM CDT on Thursday:

By late Thursday the snow will begin to weaken, but winds will continue to gust over 35-40 MPH leading to continued blizzard conditions:

Given the intense snowfall rates related to the pure strength of this low pressure system, we will likely see totals of 1-2 feet in spots:

With heavy rain in Minnesota and temperatures rising above freezing, melting from the current snow pack on the ground will likely lead to flooding threats throughout the rest of the week.
