2-5-18 Indiana Update: Multiple waves of frozen precipitation likely to begin the week. B.

Video (7:00):

Good Monday morning!

A swath of snow will work into the area beginning late this evening into the overnight hours. Snow looks to begin for Northern Indiana around 6PM EST and work east across the rest of the state into the nighttime hours. Central and Southern Indiana will see snow begin closer to 10PM EST. Snow looks to begin to taper off into the early morning hours around 3-4AM, but with energy lingering across the state, we wouldn’t rule out some residual snow showers and flurries into Tuesday morning.

We definitely think that the northern third of the state has the best chance for heavy snow, but Central Indiana certainly sees a band of snow that will put down some light accumulations especially north of I-70 with less than an inch likely south of Indianapolis.

Generally, temperatures will linger in the teens in the northern third of the state with everyone else staying in the 20s until colder air ushers in south as this system passes. Areas with that will be in the heaviest snow band will likely see temperatures drop into the single digits or below zero on Tuesday morning.

Into the afternoon the residual snow showers should taper off and our next system will begin to work east into the area. Models have continued to trend weaker and weaker with this system and now indicate that two separate bands of snow are possible across the state. The heaviest band will set up over the northern third of the state with an additional piece of energy centered over the southern third of the state. The southern swath of precipitation could include some freezing rain and rain especially in counties along the Ohio River. However, we wouldn’t rule out freezing rain getting as far north as Bloomington at times. Snow could begin as early as 10PM EST for northwest Indiana with the heaviest precipitation exiting the area by Wednesday morning.

However, we do have additional pieces of energy that could produce some snow showers throughout the day on Wednesday. Overall, the heaviest snow will be in northern Indiana with another band along and south of I-70 and the potential for freezing rain accumulation along the Ohio River. This setup will certainly produce slick spots and a hazardous morning rush on Wednesday especially in the northern third and southern third of the state.

We will have updates throughout the day today and tomorrow to fine tune this messy forecast. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out! Hope you have a wonderful day!
