Good Monday morning everyone. Our storm system that brought heavy snow to portions of the area over the weekend is pushing out of the area with some lingering snow showers and light snowfall accumulations. This should mostly clear the area by the afternoon hours:

We’re going to get more rounds of snow showers develop as we work into the evening and overnight hours tonight with some light snowfall into North Dakota with most areas seeing less than 1″ and then a more robust wave in South Dakota that could produce 1-3″, locally 3-5″ of snow. Here’s a look at the simulated radar for these waves and potential snowfall tonight:

As we work into tomorrow afternoon the snow shield will increase across Southern Minnesota and lead to an area of light to moderate accumulating snow. Snow showers will also expand across North Dakota Tuesday night. When all is said and done, most areas see at least an inch of snow by Wednesday morning with an area in Southern Minnesota nearing 3-6″.

Now as we work into Wednesday afternoon and into Wednesday night and Thursday, snow will expand from SW South Dakota and push northeast across the area. The snow shield will expand throughout Wednesday Night and lead to widespread snow accumulations with a large area of 6″+ on the table before the snow moves out by Friday morning:

Here’s a look at the GFS snowfall with this system. Note, this is not an official forecast just an idea on the potential amounts and the expansiveness of the system: Temperatures will overall be very cold over the next several days with much of this snow falling with temperatures below zero especially in North Dakota.
