12-18-18 Northern Plains: Quiet weather today, watching light rain showers tonight and high wind tomorrow. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Tuesday morning everyone! Another quiet start to the day across the area with mostly sunny skies throughout the day. A weak disturbance leads to some clouds in Southern Minnesota later today:

High Wind Watches are in effect for NW South Dakota where strong winds can filter in behind a cold front tomorrow:

We’ll need to watch for some patchy dense fog/freezing drizzle tomorrow morning especially in low-lying areas:

The system that will bring some light rain showers perhaps mixing in with some light freezing rain at times works in overnight tonight probably a little after midnight into Western North Dakota. These showers progress slowly east throughout the night and into Minnesota by tomorrow morning:

Note, we could see some light backside snow showers tomorrow afternoon and into the early overnight hours. For the most part we should see any accumulations be light ~Dusting mainly on grassy surfaces.

Behind this system, conditions will clear out in the Western Dakotas and a very strong low-level jet works in and can mix to the surface beginning tomorrow morning and lasting throughout the day. We could see wind gusts of 4o to isolated 50 MPH tomorrow mainly in the Western Dakotas:

We’ll need to watch a wave of energy Friday night into Saturday that could drop some accumulating snowfall in the Northeastern portions of the region. Still a good bit of discrepancies between the GFS/Euro but the GFS has been very consistent with this idea:

Here’s a look at 7-day precipitation totals from the FV3-GFS:
