1-4-19 Northern Plains: Quiet weather into tomorrow, snow chances pick up Sunday into Monday. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Friday morning everyone! Today will be quiet for much of the area with just a few areas of clouds here or there throughout the day. Here’s a look at the current cloud cover this morning:

As we work into the nighttime hours we could see a few areas of fog or drizzle, perhaps freezing fog in spots, develop in the far Eastern Dakotas and Minnesota.

Tomorrow will again be relatively quiet but we’ll need to watch for a few spotty snow showers in far Northern Minnesota: As we head into Mid-Day Sunday, our next system will begin to work into the area from the west. Initially, we’ll likely see a few scattered snow showers in North Dakota before the system strengthens as it works into Minnesota. The trends on this system have been for a stronger and further west band of snow Sunday night into Monday which is certainly possible given a very strong upper-level jet streak.

Here’s an idea of snowfall potential via the European and GFS – both models suggest 3-6″ of snow is possible in Northern/Northeast Minnesota, but cannot rule out heavier trends in data into the weekend.
