1-31-19 Northern Plains: Tracking snow showers this morning, stronger system Sunday/Monday. B.

Today’s Video:

*NOTE* See updated snowfall forecast with best chance to see 0.5-1.0″ in the post below*

We have snow showers working through Eastern South Dakota and into Southern Minnesota this morning. Some light accumulations of up to an inch are possible throughout the rest of this system mainly in Southern Minnesota:

Here’s a look at the simulated radar into this afternoon when snow showers should begin to push out of Minnesota:

Based on the current radar and the RPDS which seems to be doing the best with simulated radar, I’ve outlined the area that has the best potential to see 0.5-1.0″ of additional snow:Following the exit of this clipper, we could see more sun this afternoon with some flurries possible in Northern Minnesota overnight tonight before another system just clips the area to the north tomorrow afternoon and into the overnight hours:

Overall amounts look to be light with 1″ or less or most areas.

As we work into Friday night and Saturday, dense freezing fog could develop across portions of the Dakotas and into Western Minnesota. With surfaces temperatures very cold right now as drizzle develops on Saturday mainly in Southern/SE Minnesota, we could see freezing drizzle issues even into Sunday morning. Here’s the area to watch for these risks Saturday Morning and Saturday:

Low level saturation will lead to continued drizzle risks into Saturday Night and Sunday. Patchy freezing drizzle is possible north of the pink line in the Dakotas, with a greater threat in Eastern Minnesota:

This drizzle develops ahead of our next system that pushes into western portions of the area as we work into Sunday afternoon and could produce a swath of accumulation snow and the risk for some freezing rain and rain as well into Monday:

Another system will move in right behind this system and produce another risk for accumulation snow:
