1-24-19 Northern Plains: Numerous rounds of snow showers beginning tomorrow… dangerous cold next week. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone! Fairly quiet across the area this morning, but we’ll likely see some scattered snow flurries or an isolated snow shower that will blow around due in part to very cold temperatures and linger energy aloft. Don’t expect much additional snow accumulation, however.

Here’s a look at wind chills this morning across the area:

Temperatures tomorrow morning will once again be very cold. Here’s a look at potential wind chills tomorrow morning:

Energy will start to work into late tonight/tomorrow morning which could produce light snow showers across the Western Dakotas. We’ll see persistent waves of snow showers in Western Dakotas Friday and Saturday. The wave on Saturday will be stronger than snow showers on Friday and a better chance for 1-4″ of snow is possible.

Here’s a look at snow potential by tomorrow evening:

Here’s a look at Saturday’s snowfall potential:

A strong clipper system will work in for Sunday and into Monday and lead to a heavy swath accumulating snow with the potential for a wide area of 6″+ of snow. Still a good ways out here, but model agreement on the track is reasonably high with some differences on the intensity. Given the snow ratios from the cold air, we’d lean towards the higher solutions has of now.

Temperatures will be brutally cold behind this system. Dangerous wind chills could develop mid-late next week with latest data suggesting wind chills of -45 to -55F possible.
