1-23-19 Northern Plains: Blizzard warning in effect for blowing/drifting snow tonight/tomorrow morning. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone. A few flurries on the radar this morning and a few lingering snow showers in SE Minnesota, but overall a pretty quiet morning. The better chance for snow risks will come as a cold front pushes into the area later in the the day today from the north. It will come with very strong wind gusts and scattered snow shower activity. Winds gusting up tp 30-40 MPH+ late this evening and overnight will lead to blowing and drifting snow and ground blizzard conditions, hazardous travel conditions and dangerous wind chills tomorrow morning.

Here’s a look at wind gusts beginning this afternoon and through tomorrow afternoon:

Overall, snow accumulations will not be impressive but a few areas could receive about 1-1.5″ in SW South Dakota and NE Minnesota with a dusting to 0.5″ potential for the rest of the area – though some easily can miss out completely.

Several disturbances will bring light snow chances beginning Friday and continuing throughout the weekend with a more potent system likely Sunday into Monday.

Here’s a look at the system that could bring a better shot at heavier accumulation Sunday into Monday:

Dangerously cold temperatures will also be common especially in the Eastern areas into the weekend:
