1-22-19 Northern Plains: Light snow moves out today. Strong winds, scattered and blowing snow possible late tomorrow. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Tuesday morning everyone. We have a few areas of light snow beginning to work out of the area in NE Minnesota. We could see the development of snow showers in SE Minnesota, but data has substantially backed off the idea of accumulating snow in SE Minnesota today and we expect most areas to receive less than 1″:

Here’s a look at additional snowfall potential today:

Conditions clear out in spots with lingering clouds especially in Minnesota today, before a strong cold front will work south into the area late tomorrow. This will come with wind gusts of 25-40MPH and scattered snow showers and squalls. This could create low visibility with snow showers and blowing/drifting snow which will create hazardous conditions across the area. Due to the visibility and blowing snow issues, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the area:

Here’s a look at wind gusts and wind chills with this system:

Additional snow will generally be less than 1″.The cold that comes with this front will be robust with below zero temperatures likely persisting from Wednesday night into the weekend for much of Eastern North Dakota and Northern Minnesota.

We’ll need to watch a few light snow-makers Friday into the weekend as clippers dive from the northwest into the area. These will generally be light with 1-2″ to isolated 3″ being common.
