1-16-19 Northern Plains: Heavy snow possible Friday… dangerous cold possible this weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone. Not a lot going on this morning on the radar with a few patchy areas of freezing drizzle possible in the Western Dakotas. Snow chances will rise later today in Southern South Dakota with 1-1.5″ of snow possible in a few areas and some scattered snow showers/flurries in North Dakota/N. MN tomorrow morning.

Attention will then turn to Thursday night and into Friday as a stronger area of low pressure works into the area and produces the risk for heavier accumulating snowfall. Temperatures will be falling throughout this event with wind chills near or below zero for many seeing snowfall. Wind gusts of 20-25 MPH are possible creating low visibilities and blowing/drifting snow risks throughout the day on Friday. Here’s a look at our initial threat map for Friday with portions of South Dakota and SW Minnesota at play for 6-12″ of snow. The 12″ amounts will be on a more isolated basis.
