6-18-18 Northern Plains: Tale of two stories this week… drier north but heavy rain possible south. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Monday morning everyone! Hope you all had a great Father’s Day weekend!

Rain is ongoing in in Southwestern SD this morning with scattered rain showers in Eastern SD and Southern Minnesota:

This likely continues to push to the north and east throughout the day today, as showers weaken in Minnesota:

However, as we head into tonight, the stationary front will lift just to the north and allow for an increase of showers and storms in SE SD and Southern Minnesota. We could see training of these storms from west to east at times allowing for potentially heavy rainfall:

The NAM3 shows the idea of a narrow band of heavy rain over the next 24 in Southern Minnesota and SE SD very well:

This boundary lingers in this area into tomorrow afternoon, but another system will begin to develop late tomorrow and push through the area. This will produce additional rain chances into Friday as this upper-level system stalls out over the Central US and allows for rain to sit over southern portions of the area:

Here’s a look at rainfall into Friday morning. Note, overall the next several days will be quite nice for much of North Dakota and the northern half of Minnesota, some sunshine even at times with little no probably no rain and temperatures in the 70s and 80s:

Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days:
