Today's video: http://youtu.be/s2_X-3uMI3w?hd=1 Good Monday morning everyone! A majority of the region is starting their day with mostly sunny skies with central SD being the exception where cloud cover hangs across the area. It will become more active across southwestern SD and possibly central SD as scattered showers and storms are expected to develop over portions of southwestern SD this afternoon and evening and push SE out of the state by early tomorrow morning. A few of these storms may be severe with damaging winds and hail. Elevated showers and storms are possible tonight along the cold front stretching from…

Good Sunday morning everyone! As of 10:20am CDT there is a broken wave of showers and storms impacting portions of west-central MN extending southwest through southwest SD. HRRR Simulated radar through 8pm CDT this evening: The disturbance bringing showers and storms to portions of the area will lift eastward as the day progresses, pushing this convection into southern and eastern SD as well as central MN. Most model guidance slowly weakens this wave as it pushes eastward this afternoon and evening with only new scattered development possible (shortly after 12pm CDT) across northeast/central MN. Otherwise, I expect most rain chances…

Good Saturday morning! Morning radar remains rather inactive with plentiful sunshine being observed across the vast majority of the region. Upper-level cirrus clouds over the last several hours have quickly pushed into western ND where a majority of the storm chances will exist this afternoon and evening. A cold front will push into the western Dakotas this afternoon providing enough lift given the instability in the region to initiate scattered storm development from northwest SD to north-central ND between 2-4pm CDT. Over the course of the evening these storms will push east before weakening and dissipating shortly after sunset due…

Word to the wise. Model errors floating around on Twitter are WAY TOO COLD. M. The very cold EPS model runs you're seeing on social media were programmed wrong with a MASSIVE error in climo. The ECMWF climo system the model was using had a large bug and an email has been sent to ECMWF. We have worked with Ryan Maue from weathermodels.com to get this issue fixed and we have gotten it all taken care of. This is WHY our official outlooks have never been that cold to begin with but this is something we would never give away on Twitter.…

Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota
Good Friday morning everyone! Yesterday evening into this morning has been very wet across the southern portions of the region with widespread 0.75-2.5" of rain falling. As much as 5" of rain fell in localized areas of southeastern SD with some locations still picking up rain as of 8:40am CDT. Current radar (8:40am CDT) depicts a leftover cluster of showers and embedded thunderstorms in southeastern SD into southern MN. Over the next several hours this cluster will trek ENE, fading in intensity. Re-development of showers and storms is expected between 1-4pm CDT across the far southern portions of the region,…

***This post fixes a mistake with the precipitation graphic and the issuance of a new watch*** Good Thursday evening! This will be a quick update regarding this evening into tonight's severe weather/heavy rain threat. Scattered showers and storms have fired within the last couple of hours along the frontal boundary across western NE with more storm activity developing in the last hour in eastern SD. Continued convection is still occurring in northern SD with additional storms firing in central MN. Over the next several hours more storms will fill in across northern NE, southeastern SD, and southern MN, and far…

Good Thursday afternoon everyone! Showers and embedded thunderstorms continue across northern SD into west-central MN pushing ENE as of 2:30pm CDT. As we push further into the late afternoon hours, I expect this convection to persist over the next few hours before diminishing as more activity picks up across southern portions of the area later this evening. Heat Advisories remain in effect today in southeast MN where temperatures have already broke 90ºF with heat indices exceeding 100ºF. Flash Flood Watches have also been issued in southeast SD/southwest MN where heavy storms are set to fire across the area late this…

Today's Video:  http://youtu.be/Wt3sFCnrVTA?hd=1 Good Thursday morning everyone! Showers and storms continue to push to the SSE in East-Central Minnesota which produced several severe weather reports in North Central Minnesota last night:  We also have showers and storms lifting along the frontal boundary into Eastern SD and Western MN as well as the border of ND/SD. These scattered areas of precipitation likely continue into the afternoon, with a more concentrated risk of showers in the afternoon for Western SD and into Southern North Dakota:  However, the heaviest rain risks will develop in southern portions of the area in an area of…
