12-13-18 IA/KS/MO Afternoon Update: Rains work out of IA/KS tonight while periods of rain continue for MO into Saturday. I.

Iowa, Kansas, Missouri
Good afternoon everyone! Areas of light to moderate rains are lifting northward through the southern half of MO and southeastern KS while isolated patches of light showers and drizzle can be noted in northern MO into eastern IA as of 3:40pm CST. This activity is associated with an upper-level low pressure system that will slowly work eastward over the coming days, but not without supplying an ample moisture stream in the area, particularly in MO heading into Friday and Saturday. Areas off to the west in western IA and the remainder of KS will largely remain unaffected by this system…

Good afternoon everyone! A cut-off upper-level low over the Southern Plains is streaming scattered energy northward into portions of IL and IN, bringing areas of rain. This is only the beginning of an overall wetter stretch of days, at least through Saturday, as the storm system to our south slowly moves ENE and swipes the area with periods of rain. However, once we get past this system this weekend, we'll work in another stretch of drier/calmer weather (quite uncommon to get the stretches of dry weather we've experienced recently in the month of December). We continue to note areas of…

Today's video: *In the very beginning of my video today I discuss why different vendors have different looking maps in terms of surface temps from normal. Here is the key take away..if the vendor is advertising above normal GWHDD demand in the 11-15 but their map shows a widespread warmth look you need to be seriously questioning the data and the provider because that logically does not make any sense. If you have any questions on this email me directly. Michael@bamwx.com  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfK3cUUow7g PDF Slides (click link below to open in HD): 12-13-18 Long-Range Analysis Images:

Total precipitation through Saturday morning:  Heaviest along and southeast…

Today's Video:  http://youtu.be/qe2DiNZcQ-8?hd=1 Good Thursday morning everyone! We have a broken area of snow showers continuing to progress across northern and central Minnesota this morning. These will quickly push off to the east throughout the day today and completely exit the far NE corner of the state late this afternoon with snow exiting North-Central Minnesota including areas like International Falls and Grand Rapids by the early afternoon hours today. Here's a look at the current radar:  Here's a look at the simulated radar throughout the day today:  Skies should clear from west to east throughout the day for those that…

Today's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb9oY-Xc1xo&feature=youtu.be&hd=1 We did note that a brief period of some freezing fog cannot be ruled in the area circled below given the cold temps at the surface and on pavement that could cause slick spots where untreated. One thing to note that's key is that temps do rise quickly this morning which will cut-off our freezing fog risks...however, some lingering fog/drizzle cannot be ruled out across western IN into north-central IL throughout the day, even after the noon hour: Rain increases slowly from southwest to northeast throughout the day today, impacting folks south of I-70 in IL first…

Today's Video:  http://youtu.be/0nSQdnE0pB0?hd=1 Good Wednesday morning everyone! We have some light snow showers working out of SE Minnesota this morning with some very light precipitation, likely a rain, freezing drizzle mix in Western North Dakota:  We will battle dry air until we get into the late afternoon and evening hours and precipitation picks up in the form of a rain/snow mix especially in SW South Dakota. The better chance of snow will come into the Eastern Dakotas and Minnesota overnight with snow lingering in Northern Minnesota into the early afternoon hours tomorrow:  Marginal temperatures throughout this event will limit impact…

High wind watch has been issued for southwest Kansas from late tonight through Thursday for wind gusts 50-60mph.   Here is the wind forecast gusts from midnight tonight through 6am Friday.  Notice the progression of winds from the western Plains tonight, shifting south to Kansas Thursday, then decreasing Thursday night into Friday.  Meanwhile, areas across Iowa…

Today's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS1NhuzI7qs&feature=youtu.be&hd=1 Overall the data has definitely trended north with our little system that was supposed to skirt our northern area locations today...think a fair amount of sunshine now will be possible for most of us today as well. Do think after about 5-6pmET brief light rain showers with a couple wet snow flakes will be possible across NE Indiana into northwest/northern Ohio through early AM Thursday from west to east. Do think also that given temps dive at or below freezing up here as well that we could see some slick pavement that is not treated: As we've…
