12-10-19 Tovar Chicago S: Latest thoughts on snow potential tomorrow morning.V.

Good Tuesday evening! A look at the latest favored forecast guidance from 4 AM CT through 9 AM CT tomorrow morning. We are still favoring downtown Chicago and points north not to see accumulation from this. A few flurries cannot be ruled out, but accumulation is not expected at this time. The best chances at seeing a light coating from this are from Davenport to Peoria: Temps from 6 to 11 AM. We will certainly be below freezing during this time so our snow will be more on the light/fluffy side of things: Current favored totals- as discussed in previous…

12-10-19 Tovar Chicago S: Latest thoughts on light snow potential tomorrow morning.V.

Good Tuesday afternoon! Below is the latest thinking for the weak wave of precip tomorrow morning across N IL. Below is the favored simulated radar guidance through the morning- we are favoring the main pulse of snow to stay south of the Chicago metro area. While some flakes are possible, we currently do not expect any accumulation with this for downtown CHI and points north: Temperatures during this time- looking to stay well below freezing so any precip that falls looks to come in the form of snow and would be more on the light/fluffy side: Current favored snowfall accumulation-…

12-10-19 Long-range: Updated week’s 3/4 forecast & expected model chaos ahead. M.

Today's video: https://youtu.be/hJ-52jVT_K8 PDF report (click link to the right to open in HD): 12-10-19 Long-range analysis Key Points: A few weak waves to track in the Midwest this week with some light snow chances. Data hints that the system next week could bring snow chances to someone in the Midwest/Ohio/TN Valley. This is possible given brief period of a –AO. The North Pacific continues to favor warmer risks for the week 2 period especially in the Eastern US. A poleward shift of the jet is favored in week 2 which favors more mild Pacific air into the Eastern US.…

12-10-19 Tovar Chicago South: Lastest thoughts on light snow potential tomorrow AM.V.

Today's video: http://youtu.be/Lp50q3ed0tc?hd=1 Quiet and cold weather settles in through the short-term forecast. We are still watching for Downtown Chicago and points south/southwest for a brief pulse of light snow showers/flurries around 6-10amCT on Wednesday morning. Temps will be in the lower 20s so it'll be a high-ratio (light and fluffy) event...a brief coating of snow is still possible that we need to monitor for (more details in the video above): Our next threat doesn't look to come until Saturday night for a rain to snow transition that's *possible*. Models are all over the place so this is not a…

12-9-19 Tovar Chicago South (12:45pmCT): Latest on wintry potential today. V.

Today's video: https://youtu.be/H8cVwUQwzB4 Latest simulated radar guidance from 1pmCT today through midnight, as a very quick moving wave of snow showers work east...quickly reduced visibilities as the snow works east will be possible, also with snow rates being briefly heavy. Locations around the Chicago metro area look to be a bit too Far East for much/any impacts of wintry weather here today: Total snowfall accumulations are below, very close to what we mentioned in this morning's updates. Pavement impacts looking to overall be minimal given the surface temps we are currently at and forecast to be as this wave works east well above…

12-9-19 Tovar Chicago South: Discussing light rain threat today…eyeing mid-week light snow potential. K.

Today's video: http://youtu.be/uz3p7Cx0psk?hd=1 Simulated radar guidance from 7amCT through 10pmCT: Total rainfall possible should stay at or below 0.10"...combined with the wind and lack of really much moisture at all today...we do not see a risk right now for refreeze on pavement: Eyeing ~daybreak Wednesday morning through mid-morning (~6-9amCT) for a weak pulse of snow showers across the area that right now we think can produce roughly ~0.5-1.0" on pavement, given surface temps looking to be in the upper teens to lower 20s: Wind forecast guidance over the next 4 days: Temperature forecast:

Today's video: https://vimeo.com/377781840 PDF report (click link to the right to open in HD): 12-6-19 Long-range analysis Key Points: Storm system early next week brings the next best chance of snow for the Northern Plains and rain in the TN Valley. Tropospheric polar vortex influence after the cold front early next week. This will bring a big blast of cold air to the Midwest. Widespread below zero temperatures in the Northern Plains.  Combination of MJO Phase 2, -AAM and location of the stratospheric Polar Vortex will favor Pacific blocking and cold air intrusions in week 2. Differences in the GEFS/EPS…
