A couple of areas of rain and storms are moving across the forecast area this morning. However, thunderstorms coverage will increase across the area after 1-2 PM this afternoon along leftover boundaries and with an area of upper-level energy moving through.
With strong instability, some upper-level support, and copious amounts of moisture in place, strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon and evening. While I do not expect a widespread severe weather event, some instances of damaging winds and perhaps some hail will be possible from the I-70 area southward.
With a saturated environment and storms moving through, heavy rainfall will also be possible with any t’storm. New rainfall totals will likely average out around .30-.60” where rain does occur. However, local amounts of 1.5-2.5” will be possible as well.
Storms will end tonight and a cold front will move through tomorrow. Only slight chance of an outside shower or storm exists tomorrow. Behind that high pressure will build in to end the week and bring us a brief cool shot.
However, into the weekend an upper-level ridge will expand and heat will return to end the weekend into early next week. Highs will be returning into the 90’s again in areas SAT/SUN/MON.
